The doctors of the Max Hospital here claimed to have performed one of the toughest cardiac surgeries for the first time in the state. The Consultant Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgeon (CTVS) Dr Ravi Kumar Singh said that a 67- year- old patient with complaints of dull chest pain radiating to the back and uneasiness had been admitted at the hospital. On detailed investigations, it was found that the patient’s aorta had dilated up to 10 cms, he said and added that this condition is known as Dissection of Aorta which is life threatening because aorta, the main artery in the body, can burst or rupture anytime. Dr Singh added that endovascular repair of descending thoracic aorta is considered one of the most complex of cardiac surgeries. “Conventionally, in such cases, an open surgery is performed which increases mortality and takes longer recovery time.  Looking at the condition of the patient it was decided that endovascular stent grafting should be done on the patient,’’ he said.

Elaborating further, Dr Singh said that endovascular repair of aorta is a minimally invasive procedure which is technically challenging and requires meticulous planning along with extensive surgical experience of operating hands.
